“I Paid My Dues” — Samuel George Fires Back at Critics Over Old Videos

Ghana’s Minister for Communication, Samuel George, has strongly defended his political record amid what he describes as a deliberate attempt by critics to revive old videos to shape a negative narrative about him.

According to him, at a time when many party members were reluctant to publicly defend the NDC, he consistently stepped forward, representing the party on both television and radio platforms multiple times a day.

In a Facebook post, Sam George recounted his role in the aftermath of the 2016 Ghana general election, when the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) suffered a heavy defeat to the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

He emphasized that beyond media engagements, he was also active in Parliament, where the NDC held a minority of 106 seats against the NPP’s 169. “I made sure my voice was heard,” he stressed, highlighting his commitment during what he described as a difficult political period.

Addressing the resurfacing of his past media appearances, the legislator stated that rather than damaging his image, the videos serve as evidence of his loyalty and dedication to the party’s resurgence. “You may think you are cooking, but with each video you post, you show the stripes on my shoulder,” he said, suggesting that the clips reinforce his long-standing efforts to help rebuild the NDC.

Sam George also noted that while some former ministers allegedly stayed silent during those challenging times, he remained vocal in defending the party and advocating for the return of John Dramani Mahama to power. He expressed no regrets about his actions, describing them as part of his political duty and conviction.

Reflecting on the party’s current strength, he pointed to what he described as a significant electoral comeback, noting that the NDC now holds nearly 190 seats in Parliament—an improvement he believes underscores the collective effort of dedicated party members.

In a defiant tone, he challenged his critics to reflect on their own contributions. “Ask yourself, what have you stood for or achieved?” he posed, adding that his decision to remain calm should not be mistaken for weakness. He warned that attempts to undermine him would ultimately fail, insisting that such efforts only contribute to documenting his political journey.

Describing himself as a “Tuff Seed,” Sam George concluded by asserting that he remains unshaken by criticism, declaring that nothing being said about him is new.
