As at February 5, 2026, Ghana has finalized a total of 15 visa waiver agreements since President John Dramani Mahama was sworn into office in January 2025.

This was announced by the Foreign Affairs Minister, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, while announcing that Zambia is the latest country to finalize a Visa waiver agreement for travelers between the two countries.

Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa is currently accompanying the President on a 3 day visit to Zambia.

According to him, the agreement was a key directive given to him by President Mahama ahead of the visit.

“You no longer have to stress about Visa’s. We’re going to have the Visa waiver agreement,” he announced.

“It is one of the conditions that President Mahama gave us for this visit. He said ‘foreign minister, if you don’t make this happen don’t join me on this visit.“

“This will bring the number to 15 visa waiver agreements since President Mahama was sworn into office,“ he added.

Since President John Mahama assumed office in January 2025, Ghana has steadily expanded its visa-free travel arrangements as part of a broader foreign policy agenda aimed at enhancing the global mobility of citizens, strengthening bilateral relations, and promoting trade and tourism.

The visa waiver agreements generally apply to holders of diplomatic, service, and ordinary passports, depending on the specific country involved.
