Women’s rights activist arrested for physically assaulting a woman

The Ghana Police Service has arrested Christford Affadu Danful, popularly known as Ekow Black, following the circulation of a viral video showing him physically assaulting a woman.

According to the police, the arrest was carried out through an intelligence-led operation with the Inspector-General of Police’s Special Cyber Vetting Team

In a post on their official social media platforms on January 16, the Ghana Police Service stated, “The Ghana Police Service, through the Criminal Investigation Department, has arrested a suspect captured in a viral video physically assaulting a woman.”

The police explained that Danful was arrested on Thursday, January 15, 2026, through an intelligence-led operation by the Inspector-General of Police’s Special Cyber Vetting Team, following the widespread circulation of the footage online.

The video which has been circulating online I’m recent days shows the suspect landing several punches on a young woman, identified as Racheal Oduro, while shouting at her to leave him alone.

Ekow Black, who built a public image as a women’s rights advocate, was widely known online for speaking in defence of women and criticising men accused of mistreating them.

“Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspect and the woman, who previously lived together, had a history of disagreements that reportedly escalated into verbal confrontations and physical assaults,” the police added.

The police noted that he is currently in lawful custody and will be put before the court to face charges in accordance with the law.

“The Ghana Police Service reassures the public of its commitment to protecting lives, upholding the law, and ensuring that acts of violence are dealt with decisively.”
