The final funeral rites for the late Minister for Defence, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, is taking place today, Saturday, December 13, 2025, at Jackson’s Park in Koforidua in the Eastern Region.
Sympathizers and well wishers have converged at Jackson’s Park in Koforidua to mourn with the family of the late former Defence Minister.
The ceremony, which began at 12:00 noon, is expected to attract a large gathering of mourners, including political leaders and senior executives of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), traditional leaders, family members, and members of the general public.
Dr. Omane Boamah tragically died on August 6, 2025, in a Ghana Air Force helicopter crash near Obuasi while on an official national assignment. The tragedy led the state into a long period of mourning.
The crash claimed the lives of all eight persons on board, including Dr. Omane Boamah, Alhaji Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, Minister for Environment, Science and Technology; Alhaji Muniru Mohammed, Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator; Dr. Samuel Sarpong, Vice Chairman of the National Democratic Congress; Mr. Samuel Aboagye, former Parliamentary Candidate for Obuasi East and Deputy Director-General of NADMO; Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala, the pilot; Flying Officer Manaen Twum-Ampadu, the co-pilot; and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah, the flight engineer.
A state funeral for the victims of the August 6 helicopter crash was held earlier on Thursday, November 27, 2025, at the Forecourt of the State House in Accra.
A thanksgiving service in honour of Dr. Omane Boamah is scheduled to take place on Sunday, December 14, 2025, at the St. George Catholic Cathedral.
