NDC should apologize to Akufo Addo for opposing Aircraft retooling - Ntim Fordjuor

Member of Parliament for Assin South,  Rev. John Ntim Fordjuor, has called on the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to apologise to former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo over its past opposition to the retooling of the Ghana Armed Forces.

According to him, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Minority took a moral high ground by supporting current efforts to strengthen the Ghana Air Force despite being in opposition.

On December 4, 2025, Parliament approved contract agreements for the acquisition of a Falcon 6X aircraft and four helicopters (one H160 and three H175) for the Air Force.

Minority Members of Parliament argued that the procurement is a matter of national interest and an operational necessity due to the ageing fleet, stressing that it should not be treated as a partisan political issue.

In a post on X on December 5, Ntim Fordjuor drew attention to the history of aircraft procurement under previous administrations.

“President Kufour planned to acquire 2 aircrafts for the Airforce and made down payment of $38 million in 2008. NDC canceled the agreement and allowed only 1 falcon 900EX aircraft.”

“NDC further publicly and fiercely opposed President Akufo-Addo’s efforts of retooling Ghana Armed Forces and rejected investment into Ghana Airforce.”

Fordjuor highlighted what he described as responsible conduct by the New Patriotic Party while in opposition.

“Yesterday, we NPP MPs in opposition, the Mighty Minority, took the moral high ground to support the acquisition of aircrafts for the Ghana Airforce.”

He added that the party will not obstruct initiatives that serve national interest.

“We will not politicize nor oppose what is right for the state and the Airforce.”

Ntim Fordjuor further insisted that the National Democratic Congress must take responsibility for what he described as needless politics in past years.

“However, NDC must apologize to the good people of Ghana and President Akufo-Addo for opposing Airforce retooling agenda in 2017-2024 and doing needless politics with military aircraft and presidential travels.”
