I’ll be disappointing my party if I allow Nyindam in parliament - Majority Chief Whip

Majority Chief Whip Rockson Nelson Dafeamekpor says he will ensure that Kpandai MP Matthew Nyindam does not take part in proceedings from this afternoon, insisting the legal window that allowed him to remain in the House has elapsed.

According to him, the Majority side questioned Nyindam’s swearing-in from the beginning and were told that those responsible would bear the consequences once the courts ruled.

Speaking on Joy News on December 2, and monitored by NewsDesksGH, he argued that the period granted by the Speaker for Nyindam to continue sitting has ended, and there is no justification for allowing him to remain on the floor.

On November 24, 2025, the Tamale High Court annulled the 2024 parliamentary election results for the Kpandai constituency and ordered a re-run, citing irregularities.

Speaker Alban Bagbin later ruled that Hon. Nyindam would remain MP until at least December 1, 2025, due to the mandatory seven-day stay of execution allowed by law to give room for a possible appeal.

Dafeamekpor recalled that their concerns began on the day Nyindam was admitted into the House.

“On 7th of January in Parliament we raised the issue about Nyindam being sworn in, and they told us that they were ready to suffer the consequences in the event that we succeed in court.”

“I shouted across that ‘Nyindam you are an interim MP. At the appropriate time we’ll take you out.’”

He maintained that the one-week window is over and Nyindam can no longer hold himself as a Member of Parliament.

“Because he’s no longer an MP. The court of law has ruled that he’s no longer an MP. So if me as the Majority Chief Whip of the ruling government should allow him in, I’ll be disappointing my party people.”

“He cannot be in the house,” he stressed.

Matthew Nyindam has since filed an application at the Supreme Court seeking to overturn the High Court’s decision.
