Former Akim Abuakwa South Member of Parliament, Samuel Atta Akyea, has cautioned New Patriotic Party (NPP) delegates against voting for a flagbearer he described as a “loose talker,” warning that such a leader would embarrass the country on major international platforms.
According to Atta Akyea, delegates must avoid choosing someone who could use offensive language if placed before the United Nations.
His remarks are being interpreted as a be a jab at fellow NPP flagbearer hopeful Kennedy Ohene Agyapong. as Ken Agyapong is known for using strong, unconventional, and sometimes controversial language.
Speaking during Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia’s campaign tour of the Eastern Region on November 25, Samuel Atta Akyea urged party members to take their decision seriously.
“Don’t go and vote anyhow and select someone that when they put him in front of the United Nations, they will use bad language,” he warned.
He suggested that electing the wrong candidate could lead to national embarrassment.
Atta Akyea questioned whether such conduct would be befitting of a president.
“Ghanaians will hear ‘motherfucker’. God Almighty, is this a president saying that?” he said.
He contrasted such behaviour with the former Vice President Mahamudu Bawima’s conduct, stressing that delegates be mindful of their votes.
“Have you heard Bawumia saying that before? I plead with you, don’t vote anyhow,” he added.
The New Patriotic Party (NPP) will hold its presidential primary on January 31, 2026, with 5 candidates set to contest.
They are former Assin Central MP and businessman Ken Ohene Agyapong, MP for Abetifi Constituency Dr. Bryan Acheampong, Former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, MP for Bosomtwe and former Education Minister Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, and former General Secretary Ing. Kwabena Agyei Agyepong.
