8 year old girl killed in fire at Dansoman market

The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has confirmed the death of an eight-year-old girl who was trapped in a fire that swept through the Dansoman Market in the early hours of Wednesday, November 26, 2025.

The young girl, identified as Priscilla, was unable to be rescued from one of the affected sections of the market. Her severely burnt body has since been handed over to the police for preservation and further investigation.

According to GNFS, the distress call was received at 12:02 a.m., with the first team arriving at the scene at 12:04 a.m. Firefighters, however, faced major challenges, including an unstable water supply and heavy obstruction from large crowds who rushed to the scene, prompting police intervention to control the situation. Despite the swift deployment, the intensity of the blaze made rescue impossible.

Ablekuma West MP, Rev. Kweku Addo, has paid a visit to the victim’s mother to offer condolences.
