Calls intensify for justice in the case of Ransford Owusu Ansah, a 16-year-old footballer whose death has sparked a wide social justice campaign under the hashtag #JusticeForRansford.
The campaign, which has garnered attention across social media platforms, demands accountability for the abuse and death of Ransford, who was a player at Siano Soccer Academy in Amasaman, Accra.
According to reports, Ransford was repeatedly sodomized by his coach, Ibrahim Anyass, over a period of three years.
Coach Ibrahim Anyass allegedly convinced him that the abuse would help him improve his performance.
Ransford’s health deteriorated and he contracted a severe kidney infection from the constant abuse, and in March 2025 he fell into a coma and unfortunately passed away.
Before his death, he reportedly confessed to his mother that Coach Anyass was the perpetrator. The mother, who initially believed her son had been cursed, said she had forced him to speak up after noticing his worsening condition.
A video that surfaced days ago shows the grieving mother pleading with Ghanaians to help her find her son’s abuser.
She also offered a GH₵5,000 reward for credible information leading to the coach’s arrest, lamenting that the police have not made any progress since the case was first reported.
Despite all this, Coach Ibrahim Anyass remains a free man and is reported to be on the run, however some reports suggest that he has returned to coaching.
Social media has been flooded with reactions from Ghanaians demanding justice.
Many are demanding immediate justice for Ransford and the arrest of Coach Ibrahim Anyass.
Activists and public figures have joined the campaign to raise more awareness and amplify the calls for justice.
Petitions have also been started online, calling for the arrest and prosecution of Ibrahim Anyass and for stronger child-protection policies in institutions like this.
