President John Dramani Mahama has cautioned that Artificial Intelligence (AI) can contribute to the global issue of misinformation.
President Mahama has urged leaders and stakeholders to ensure that AI is used responsibly to strengthen public trust and combat misinformation.
Speaking at the International Conference on Information Integrity in Paris on October 30, 2025, President Mahama highlighted the dangers of disinformation and its impact on global stability, governance, and sustainable development.
“Disinformation is not an abstract issue. It is shaping elections, it distorts public health response, it fuels conflicts and undermines the fight against climate change,” he said.
He stressed that the world cannot achieve meaningful progress without an accurately informed population.
“If we’re to build a sustainable planet, we must also make an informed public,” he added.
He further noted that while AI presents opportunities for innovation and progress, it also introduces risks that could worsen the spread of false information.
“Likewise, the dawn of artificial intelligence has transformed the information landscape,” he said.
“While AI offers immense opportunities for innovation, it also amplifies the risk of misinformation and economic disruption.”
He cautioned that deep fakes, synthetic media, and algorithmic manipulation are already reshaping how societies understand and define truth.
“Our collective task must therefore be to harness AI responsibly, to promote transparency and to ensure that technological progress strengthens rather than undermines public trust,” he urged.
