The Kumasi High Court has sentenced Police Inspector Ahmed Twumasi, popularly known as “Taacum,” to life imprisonment after a seven-member jury, by a 5–2 majority decision, found him guilty of murder.
Inspector Twumasi was convicted for the fatal shooting of his girlfriend, Victoria Dapaah, popularly known as Maadwoa, near her residence at Adum in Kumasi on April 20, 2023.
The incident sparked nationwide outrage and renewed public concern about gun violence and misconduct within the security services.
Although the officer initially confessed to the shooting, he later claimed it was unintentional and pleaded not guilty, prompting a full trial before the jury.
After nearly three years of legal proceedings, Justice Rosemond Baah-Tosu delivered the final judgment on Friday, April 24, 2025, sentencing the police inspector to life imprisonment.
Family members of the late Victoria Dapaah, who were present in court, expressed relief and satisfaction with the verdict.
Her mother, Adwoa Nyarko, thanked the media for their consistent coverage, describing the ruling as “long-overdue justice” for her daughter.
