If Pastors only have to pray for sinners, free all prisoners and end all criminal prosecutions - Ntim Fordjour to NDC and Canon Dr Bansah

Member of Parliament for Assin South, Rev. John Ntim Fordjour, has responded to comments made by Rev. Canon Dr. Confidence Bansah, who earlier criticised him for supporting the passage of the Proper Human Sexual Rights and Ghanaian Family Values Bill.

Canon Dr. Bansah, a Religion and Human Values lecturer at the University of Cape Coast and CEO of the Center for Religion and Public Life (CRPL-Ghana), had argued that as a fellow pastor, Ntim Fordjour should pray for the repentance of sinners rather than support their imprisonment.

In a post on X on October 23, Dr. Bansah wrote, “As the senior pastor that you truly are, will you not pray for the repentance of sinful souls rather than sending them to prison?”

Reacting on X soon after, Ntim Fordjour questioned the logic behind the argument.

“Going by Canon Dr. Bansah’s logic, all laws must be abolished and all prisons closed,” he wrote.

He continued, “Let everyone in society freely engage in all manner of offensive conducts so we recruit Pastors to pray for them.”

“Now that they have appointed an Envoy for Ecumenical Affairs, reviewing prophecies, let them free all prisoners and end all criminal prosecutions so Pastors pray for all offenders.”

“What a logic??” he stressed.

The exchange follows renewed public debate over the stalled Proper Human Sexual Rights and Ghanaian Family Values Bill, which seeks to criminalize LGBTQ+ activities in Ghana.
