Former Member of Parliament for Ablekuma West, Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, has declared her intention to contest for the position of General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
According to her, the NPP needs to restructure in an attempt to restore the belief of Ghanaians in the party.
In a post on Facebook on October 20 which happens to be her birthday, Ursula Owusu called on party members to join her on what she described as a “rescue mission” to rebuild and reorganise the NPP ahead of the 2028 general elections.
“A lot of water has passed under the bridge since our stormy face-off with ourselves and our base. We came out bruised, our individual and collective egos battered. We lie not in a good place,” she wrote.
“However, as our great tradition had demonstrated over the years, influenced by the then burgeoning spirit of resilience and purpose that heralded our birth in Saltpond, we will thrive,” she continued.
Ursula Owusu-Ekuful described the NPP’s current situation as ‘a necessary phase of self-introspection and diagnosis’ and urged members to remain united.
She accused the ruling NDC government of having lied their way into power and causing belief in the NPP to waver, but assured that the party would revive its image.
“From the polling stations, through to the electoral areas, constituencies, and regions to the top, we will restore confidence in our party and unity amongst ourselves,” she stated.
“I come to you in all humility, to ask you, dear patriots, to join me on this rescue mission as your next General Secretary,” she declared.
Owusu-Ekuful stressed the need for a renewed, reorganised party capable of winning back public trust.
“We need to re-shape, re-organise, and put ourselves in a good place to effectively represent the desired change and restore the belief of Ghanaians in us as the institutors of growth and development,” she said.
“Patriots, join me, let us commit to the struggle, for I know with unity and God on our side, as well as the collective will of the Ghanaian people, we shall overcome.”
She assured of her commitment to the country and the NPP
“It remains the ultimate resolve of Ursula Owusu-Ekuful,” she wrote.
