NPP flagbearer race: Kwabena Agyepong given 48 hours to settle fee or face disqualification

Former General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Ing. Kwabena Agyei Agyepong may allegedly be disqualified from the Party’s upcoming flagbearer race over his failure to pay a ₵4.6 million development fee.

According to Oyerapa TV reporter Kwesi Parker-Wilson, the flagbearer candidate has only 48 hours to come up with the money or be dropped from the ballot.

Speaking on the station’s Breakfast Show on October 8, Parker-Wilson said he had received breaking news on Ing. Agyepong’s status in the election.

“He could not pay the development fee, so the vetting committee has recommended that they disqualify him,” he said.

He added that the National Council had since considered the vetting committee’s recommendation and reached out to the former General Secretary.

“They have communicated to him that they have given him 48 hours to mobilize the funds,” Parker-Wilson added.

The directive reportedly gives Agyepong until close of day Thursday, October 9, to settle the amount.

If he fails to do so, he would be excluded from the ballot for the party’s January 2026 presidential primaries.

According to Kwesi Parker-Wilson the station had been trying to get hold of Ing. Agyepong however have been unable to reach him yet.

In addition to Ing. Kwabena Agyepong, four other aspirants have been confirmed for the contest. They are; Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, former Vice President and former flagbearer; Dr. Bryan Acheampong, Minister for Food and Agriculture; Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, Minister for Education; and Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, businessman and former MP for Assin Central.
