NDC should rather apologise to Ghanaians – MP, Afigya Kwabre North

Member of Parliament for Efija Kwabre North, Collins Adomako-Mensah has criticised the response of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to the growing illegal mining menace.

According to the MP, members of the NDC are being defensive instead of accepting the situation and apologizing to Ghanaians.

Speaking on Metro Tv on October 8, he stated that the country is in dire times.

“The turbidity levels then that necessitated a state of emergency, now it’s even worse but we’re being told a state of emergency is not needed.”

He said his expectations of President John Dramani Mahama during his first media encounter, were not met.

“When John Mahama His Excellecy met with the press, all I expected him to say was ‘Ghanaians I am committed to fighting galamsey. The posturing of my party and the way we looked at galamsey, being in power I think I need more time. Just excercise some patience for me’ I tell you, we would have understood.”

He said it is ironic that the same people calling for state of emergency before they came into power are now saying something different.

He further expressed frustration about how they are justifying it.

“But this defence about ‘it’s not in the manifesto’ that is what even annoys me the most,” he lamented.

Mr. Adomako-Mensah questioned, “So now politicians can say things and because it’s not in their manifesto, we shouldn’t take them serious?”

He explained that the NDC should be more accountable rather than being defensive.

“They should rather be apologizing and seeking more time from the Ghanaian people to solve this problem, and not be giving us this kind of excuse.”
