Deputy Director of Communications of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Ernest Owusu Bempah, has defended himself against a pending case with the party’s disciplinary committee.
According to Owusu Bempah, he has done nothing wrong and is ready to face the party’s DC.
Speaking in an interview on Okay FM, Owusu Bempah stressed that the NPP belongs to all its members and not a select few.
“The NPP does not belong to anyone. It is for all of us,” he said.
He questioned whether the party was truly upholding its democratic values as he is aware that the NPP practices democracy and not autocracy.
“Are we practicing Animal Farm kind of politics in NPP?” he questioned.
Owusu Bempah argued that his comments surrounding illegal mining (galamsey) which may have caused such petitions against him, were not wrong.
“I speak my conscience. I speak the truth. And I’m daring anybody, I’m ready to defend myself anywhere. What have I said wrong that letters are being written to the disciplinary committee? I’m ready to go if they call me,” he stated.
He added that he has sacrificed greatly for the NPP and does not believe he deserves to be victimized for speaking out.
“I have put my life on the line for the party,” he stressed.
On September 24, NPP General Secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong confirmed in a statement that petitions filed against Owusu Bempah had been referred to the party’s National Council for action.
The allegations center on claims that Owusu Bempah violated party directives by commenting on internal issues in the media.
Speculations also suggest the disciplinary process may be linked to his public support for presidential hopeful Kennedy Agyapong.
Owusu Bempah, however, maintains that the he has done nor said anything wrong.
