People questioned my abilities as a woman – Accra Regional Minister

Greater Accra Regional Minister, Linda Obenewaa Akweley Ocloo, has revealed that some people doubted her competence as minister because of her gender.

According to her, people questioned what she could do as a woman serving as the Accra Regional Minister.

Speaking to Adom FM reporters on September 15, Hon. Linda Ocloo says she was not surprised herself when she was nominated for the position, however people had a lot to say.

“When the name came out a lot of people said ‘men have come that could not do, what can a woman also do?’,” she said.

She went on to say that she has proven them wrong, as she is going about her duties well for everyone to see.

She explained that it is normal as a politician to be doubted, however they should just focus on doing the tasks assigned to them.

Linda Obenewaa Akweley Ocloo was approved as the Greater Accra Regional Minister by Parliament on January 29, 2025 after being nominated for the position by President John Dramani Mahama.

Since her approval, Hon. Linda Ocloo has taken several actions against constructing on Ramsar sites and has led demolition teams to reclaim encroached land at such sites.

She said these actions are necessary, although she feels sympathy for the affected people considering the cost of building to different levels and being asked to demolish.

“But I have to protect the country at large,” she stated, explaining that she cannot overlook the interests of the country for individuals, as building on these sites causes flooding after rainfall.
