Ministry of Education to Host Inaugural National Conference on AI

Education Minister, Honourable Haruna Iddrisu, has announced the Ministry of Education plans to host Ghana’s first-ever national conference on Artificial Intelligence and the future of education.

In addition to the conference, the Ministry will also introduce foundational technology subjects into the basic education curriculum.

The Minister made the announcement when he commissioned a teachers accommodation facility at Accra girls senior high school.

The Minister stated that the conference, scheduled for November, will bring together stakeholders to discuss the opportunities and challenges of artificial intelligence. Its aim is to explore how Ghana can strategically prepare as a country for the disruptions and advancements brought about by AI.

A key part of the Ministry’s new initiative is the revision of its basic education curriculum. A curriculum review committee, led by Dr. Amina, a respected educationist, will oversee the process.

The updated curriculum will introduce coding, electronics, and robotics as core subjects.

“The goal of these initiatives is to prepare young people for a competitive digital world tomorrow,” said a spokesperson for the Ministry of Education.

“By integrating these subjects from kindergarten to primary school, we are ensuring our students have the essential skills they need to thrive in a rapidly evolving technological landscape. Robotics, electronics, and artificial intelligence will be an integral part of our revised curriculum for basic education.”

The move highlights the Ministry’s commitment to digitizing education and preparing the next generation of students for a technology-driven future.
