The Accra High Court, Criminal Division, has banned all outdoor and public activities associated with this year’s Teshie Homowo Festival, allowing only traditional rites to proceed.
The injunction, granted on Friday, August 29, 2025, followed an ex parte application supported by an affidavit from PW L/Cpl. Sandra Mintah of the Ghana Police Service.
ASP Benjamin Baafi, who moved the application, told the court that violent clashes broke out on Tuesday, August 26, during the sprinkling of Kpokpoi, when rival youth groups from the Lenshie and Gbugblah clans confronted each other.
The disturbances left two people dead and several others injured, heightening fears of renewed violence.
In response, the court suspended all non-traditional outdoor activities scheduled for Saturday, August 30, and Sunday, August 31, citing the need to safeguard public peace, security, and safety.
