My Vice President experience makes me the best candidate for the NPP – Bawumia

The former Vice-President, Dr, Mahamudu Bawumia has formally filed his nomination to contest the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearership ahead of the 2028 general elections.

According to the former Vice President, his time in office makes him the most qualified to lead the Party and the country in the next elections.

The filing took place on Thursday, August 28 at the party’s headquarters in Accra where many supporters of Bawumia and the NPP were present in a cheerful mood, His wife Samira Bawumia was also present.

Addressing the crowd and the public, Dr. Bawumia expressed his profound gratitude to those joining him on this journey and formally announced his bid to be retained aa the flagbearer of the NPP for the 2028 general election.

“I offer myself for a second time to bear the flag of the NPP into this election, after having listened extensively to the demands of the party and the nation,” he said.

“Dear citizens, as the NPP is looking for a leader who embodies the character of this party’s tradition and the values of our forebearers, I, Mahamudu Bawumia, offer myself to lead the party for the 2028 election,” he added.

Dr. Bawumia emphasized on the need for the party to build from its past results from the last elections rather that starting from scratch.

“I owe this party a duty that if we are to win 2028, we ought not to start afresh from zero. Instead, we ought to build on the nearly 42 percent of valid votes and work to cross the 50% mark in the next election,” he noted.

Reflecting on his time in office, he said, “I have also had the distinct privilege of serving as Vice President and supporting the President and the government in our last administration with ideas that have significantly impacted the lives of millions of our people. This is what the streets refer to as being rich in ideas.”

He further mentioned some successful ideas that he championed including the Bank of Ghana’s gold purchase program, the gold for oil program, the accelerated issuance of the Ghana card, mobile money interoperability, the Ghana Digital Property address system, electric buses, among others.

“The implementation of these practical policy initiatives, has resulted in many people saying that I have been the most effective vice president in Ghana’s history. This implies that given the opportunity I can equally become one of the most effective presidents in Ghana,” he said.

Dr. Bawumia added, “The combined effect of how well Bawumia is known today and my experience as Vice President make me the most prepared person for the NPP’S quest for the 2028 election and governance in 2029.”

Bawumia’s filing comes a day after Former General Secretary of the NPP, Kwabena Agyepong, submitted his nomination. The Member of Parliament for Bosomtwe, Yaw Osei Adutwum is also expected to do same later today.
