Shatta Wale tops trend after EOCO detention over Lamborghini tax probe

Dancehall artiste Charles Nii Armah Mensah Jr., known popularly as Shatta Wale is trending after being detained by the Economic and Organized Crime Office (EOCO) on Wednesday, August 20, over issues relating to tax obligations on his yellow Lamborghini.

According to a statement from his management following the incident, Shatta Wale, voluntarily reported to the EOCO offices in Accra accompanied by his lawyer, Cephas Biyuo, to assist with investigations.

His team assured fans that his legal representatives are fully engaged and actively working with the authorities to resolve this matter while urging the public to remain calm and avoid speculation.

Despite the management’s reassurance, the development has sparked heated conversations online. Shatta Wale has dominated trends in Ghana, with fans flooding X (formerly Twitter) with messages of support.

One fan wrote, “They want to see him dead but God is alive. Shatta Wale will surely come out clean @shattawalegh we love you #SM4LYF.”

Another posted, “We should all know that without Shatta Wale there is not Ghana Entertainment. It will be a dead yard.”

On the ground, some supporters were also spotted outside EOCO offices on Thursday morning holding placards that read, “Please have mercy on Shatta Wale.”

Meanwhile, Shatta Wale’s publicist, Sammy Baah Flex, speaking on his YouTube channel Sammy Flex TV on Wednesday night, denied rumours linking the artist to money laundering or criminal activity.

“They are all lies. Shatta Wale has not involved himself in anything. Shatta Wale went to EOCO, defended the fact that he bought his car, and I’m sure EOCO has issues with how he paid taxes on the car, and that is what is in contention,” he explained.

He further revealed that EOCO has placed a bail condition of GH₵10 million as investigations continue.

“Now what EOCO is demanding is, they still want to have him to investigate the car, the tax, and issues around his company. Therefore, before they can continue with the process, they want to give him bail… management and legal officers of the dancehall king are working feverishly on this and hopefully by Thursday, August 21, we are sure going to work this out for everything to be okay.”

Sammy Baah Flex was spotted going into the EOCO offices this morning, August 21, presumably to continue discussions with investigators and check on the artists.

Investigations are still ongoing.
