Farmers affected by Adansi Akrofuom crash to be assisted – MP for Akrofuom

Farmers in the Adansi Akrofuom District who have been cut off from their farms due to the Ghana Armed Forces helicopter crash investigation will receive support.

This was confirmed by the Member of Parliament for the area, Joseph Azuma, who spoke to JoyNews on August 8, at Adansi Akrofuom after a meeting between himself, the District Chief Executive, military officials and community members in the area.

Speaking to JoyNews at Adansi Akrofuom after the meeting, the MP for the area gave a summary of what the meeting touched on.

Parts of the Dampia Forest where the crash occurred have been restricted as military teams continue search and recovery operations.

To identify those affected, local authorities have instructed the Assembly Member to compile a list of all farmers currently unable to reach their farms.

“We will take into consideration how we can take care of them for the time until the ban or restriction is lifted” he said

Joseph Azuma added, “By the close of today we have to get the list so that we will take that up and support them.”

Speaking with JoyNews, some farmers described the past three days as difficult, noting they had been forced to buy food due to the loss of access to their crops.

The MP also said that the residents were urged to return any items taken from the crash site to aid the investigation and ensure safety.

He further urged the residents to continue to cooperate peacefully, saying “We are speaking to the community, as peaceful as they are, to continue to cooperate.”

The tragic crash, which occurred on Wednesday August 6, claimed the lives of eight people, including two ministers and senior military personnel.

Traditional leaders have pledged the community’s full cooperation and assured that residents will respect the restricted zone.
