Ghana’s Parliament has expressed profound sorrow following the tragic helicopter crash that claimed the lives of eight prominent individuals.
In a statement signed by Hon. Mahama Ayariga, Majority Leader and Leader of Government Business, the Parliamentary Caucus is extending its condolences to the bereaved families and describes the incident as a devastating loss for the entire nation.
“Our former colleagues in Parliament and in Government and the officers we have lost dedicated their lives to the service of our nation,” the statement read.
“Their untimely and tragic demise is a devastating blow to Parliament, the Government, the Armed Forces and the people of Ghana as a whole.”
The individuals who lost their lives in the crash have been identified as:
- Dr. Edward Omane Boamah – Minister for Defence
- Alhaji Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed – Minister for Environment, Science, and Technology, and Member of Parliament for Tamale Central
- Alhaji Muniru Mohammed – Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator
- Dr. Samuel Sarpong – Vice Chairman of the NDC
- Samuel Aboagye – Former Parliamentary Candidate
- Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala – Pilot
- Flying Officer Manin Twum-Ampadu – Co-pilot
- Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah – Crew member
The release also stated“Their sacrifice, patriotism, and commitment to duty will forever be etched in the history of our Republic. May their souls Rest in Peace.”
Details surrounding the crash are still emerging, meanwhile, political leaders including former president Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, and many citizens across the country continue to pay tribute to the victims and their families.
