The issue of environmental degradation must be taken seriously – Krachi East MP Nelson Kofi Djabab

The Member of Parliament for the Krachi East Constituency in the Oti Region, Nelson Kofi Djabab has called for urgent action on environmental degradation as it can threaten the daily lives of Ghanaians.

According to Nelson Kofi Djabab, the recent destructive rainstorms at Nandom and other part of the country should serve as a reminder for urgent actions to be taken by the government and relevant stakeholders.

Speaking on the floor of Parliament on Tuesday, June 17, Nelson Kofi Djabab said the plight of the people of Nandom after the destructive rainstorms recently will be the fate of the entire country is proper action is not taken to address the problem of land degradation.

“Ghana National Fire Service should educate our people because rampant environmental destruction such as bush fire burning, tree cutting and land degradation because they have become so rampant. So our communities need to be educated that these things lead to environmental depletion.”

“The issue of environmental degradation must be taken seriously because one day it will be the entire country that will feel the effect and not Nandom alone,” Nelson Kofi Djabab said on the floor of Parliament on Tuesday, June 17, 2025.

He added that it is time for the country to go back to the practice where students were made to plant trees on and around their campuses to help check environmental degradation.

“I want to call on the various schools in our country because the President has launched the one man, one tree initiative and we want the schools to go back to the old days where school children were made to plant tree on their compound and this helped to check environmental degradation such as rainstorms that we are seeing now which has led to destruction of some schools.”

  1. They should equally work on the roads in Dambai township to reduce the high level of dust in the community.
    Too much dust can also degrade the beauty of an environment, cause damages to human body system when inhale.
    You can move around in Dambai township freely during the dry season without inhaling dust instead of oxygen .
