The community of Abofu in the Greater Accra Region has witnessed the enstoolment of a new chief, bringing an end to a three-year vacancy on the stool.
Nii Osaman II chief of Abofu has officially been enstooled as the new traditional leader of Abofu following the prolonged absence of a chief due to the ill health and eventual stepping down of the previous occupant.
The enstoolment ceremony took place in accordance with Ga customs and traditions, culminating in the early hours of May 3, 2025.
The rites were performed by the traditional authorities of the area, who ensured that all cultural protocols were observed.
Although the newly enstooled chief, Abdul Malik, initially showed reluctance to accept the responsibility, he was later convinced and accosted in line with tradition, a process symbolic of the call to serve one’s people. He was then given the stool name Nii Osaman chief of Abofu, marking the beginning of his reign as the custodian of the land and culture of Abofu.
The ceremony drew community elders, youth, and opinion leaders who expressed optimism about the future under the leadership of Nii Osaman chief of Abofu.
Many described the moment as a significant turning point for the development of the community, which has been without a substantive chief for the past three years.
As he assumes his new role, expectations are high for Nii OSaman to unite the people of Abofu and champion the cause of progress and cultural preservation.
