The Minority in Parliament has urged the Majority to invite Vice President Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang to participate in the debate on the 2025 budget, scheduled to commence on Tuesday, March 18.
According to Member of Parliament for Okaikwei Central Patrick Boamah, it is important she presents herslef for debate to project the financial and economic policy of the president and expertise as former Education Minister.
He added the importance of the Vice President’s involvement, citing Article 111 of the Constitution.
“Looking at the chamber, it is very important that next week Tuesday, when the debate commences, the Vice President joins the discussion. According to Article 111, the Vice President, or a minister or deputy minister who is not a member of Parliament, is entitled to participate in parliamentary proceedings and shall be accorded all the privileges of an MP, except the right to vote or hold office in Parliament,” he stated.
He further added, “I have noticed that the Business Committee has allocated time for ministers of state but has left out the Vice President, who has been very quiet. We need action on the floor. She should debate the President’s finance and economic policy, especially given her experience as a former Minister for Education.”
The Finance Minister presented the 2025 Budget Statement and Economic Policy to Parliament on Monday, March 11, 2025.
