Breaking News: Dampare sacked as IGP

President John Dramani Mahama has announced the removal of Dr. George Akuffo Dampare as Inspector-General of Police (IGP) and appointed Commissioner of Police (COP) Christian Tetteh Yohunu as his replacement.  

The announcement, made in a statement issued by the Presidency on Thursday, March 13, 2025, cited constitutional provisions as the basis for the decision. 

According to the statement, President Mahama acted in accordance with Articles 91 and 202 of the 1992 Constitution, in consultation with the Council of State, to effect the change.  

COP Yohunu, a seasoned officer with over four decades of experience in the Ghana Police Service, takes over the reins of the Service at a critical time.
