Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Dr. Dominic Ayine, has revealed that Prof. Christopher Ameyaw-Akumfi, the former Public Procurement Authority (PPA) Board Chairman, admitted during interrogation that a $2 million payment was made for no work completed.
Prof. Ameyaw-Akumfi, who is currently under investigation for financial irregularities during his tenure as Board Chairman of the Ghana Infrastructural Investment Fund (GIIF), was arrested by the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) on February 23, 2025. His arrest took place at his residence in Kawukudi, near Nima in the Greater Accra Region.
According to Prof. Ameyaw-Akumfi’s lawyer, Ken Kuranchie, a group of men arrived at the former chairman’s residence in three pickups and informed him that he was needed at the NIB. He voluntarily accompanied them to the NIB headquarters before being moved to the agency’s Kawukudi offices for questioning.
When questioned about the arrest, Dr. Ayine confirmed his authorization of the operation, stating, “Yes, I did.” He further provided insights into the ongoing investigation, revealing that Prof. Ameyaw-Akumfi admitted during his questioning that the $2 million payment was made despite no work being carried out. Dr. Ayine assured that investigations into the circumstances surrounding the payment, as well as identifying other individuals involved, are still ongoing.
