2026 flagbearer race: Bawumia faces NPP vetting committee today

New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer hopeful, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, will appear before the party’s vetting committee today, September 23, as part of the process leading to the 2026 presidential primary.

The exercise is designed to confirm that all aspirants meet party requirements, adhere to internal regulations, and demonstrate the capacity to lead.

The former Vice President is expected to defend his leadership record, outline his political vision, and present strategies to unite the NPP under his campaign theme, “Win With Bawumia.”
His team has pitched him as the frontrunner to lead the party into the next general election.

If cleared, Dr. Bawumia will join four other aspirants in what is expected to be one of the most competitive flagbearer contests in recent party history. His challengers include:

Ing. Kwabena Agyei Agyepong, former NPP General Secretary,

Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, former Assin Central MP and businessman,

Dr. Bryan Acheampong, MP for Abetifi and former Agriculture Minister, and

Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, MP for Bosomtwe and former Education Minister.

The NPP has scheduled its presidential primaries for January 31, 2026.
